Understand How Your Brain Reads

The Reading Brain Circuit

Brain Reading Circuit
Visual Cortex
Direct Path

Normal Reading Path (Slow)

→Voice Box→Brain

Limited by how fast you can speak (150-250 WPM).

Speed Reading Path (Fast)

→Visual Cortex→Meaning

Direct visual processing. 60,000x faster than speech.

Subvocalization: The Inner Voice

Your brain "speaks" words internally as you read. This limits your reading speed to your speaking speed (~150-250 WPM).

The Fix:

Train your brain to recognize words as images, not sounds. Your visual cortex can process 60,000 words per minute—your speech center cannot.

Fixations & Saccades

Your eyes don't move smoothly across lines—they jump in stops called fixations (250ms each).

Normal Reader:
  • • 4-5 fixations per line
  • • 1-2 words per fixation
  • • 30% regressions (backskips)
Speed Reader:
  • • 1-2 fixations per line
  • • 5-7 words per fixation
  • • <5% regressions

Peripheral Vision Power

Your eye can see 10° of vision while maintaining word recognition. Most readers only use 2°.

Training Benefit:

Expand your "recognition span" from 1-2 words to 5-7 words. This means reading entire phrases in one glance instead of individual words.

Neuroplasticity: Your Brain Rewires

Your brain creates new neural pathways when you practice consistently. This is physical brain change, not just skill improvement.

8-Week Timeline:
Week 1:
New synaptic connections forming
Week 2:
Myelin sheath thickening (faster signals)
Week 4:
Automatic processing begins
Week 8:
New baseline established
